After a hiatus of a few years, the guys from Chocolat are back with a surprise new album, but no less anticipated, titled Tss Tss. The Francophone rock band already stood out from other Quebec musicians with the release of the famous Le EP (2007) with its retro garage rock and skillful guitar play. The style of Piano élégant (2008) later changed, but the talent and wild energy of the members remained undeniable. Then came the promotion, the praise, the tour including numerous concerts, the parties, and the sometimes harmless, sometimes inappropriate antics that somehow undermined the path of the lads. An unexpected reunion for the band Chocolat. While some reunions happen mainly for money, it feels like with Chocolat, it’s the pleasure that has prevailed! The pleasure of a group of friends getting together and jamming. "Tss tss" offers us raw psychedelic garage rock, which is rare in Quebec. "Tss tss" was recorded at the legendary Victor studio, but in a rather unusual format for today: they played live, arranged in an oval in the studio, and without separation between the vocals and the instruments. The mixing stage must have been very complex, but the result is very convincing. Emmanuel Éthier's production is also worth noting: every element is in the right place. The lyrics are sometimes difficult to hear clearly, but we can assume that the essence here is the music. And it is indeed with this psychedelic garage rock that this album by Chocolat distinctly fits into the Quebec music scene.
