Originally released on Virgin Records in April 1985, Flaunt The Imperfection represented the pinnacle of the group's first phase, with two singles in the UK Top 20 and an appearance in the top 10 albums chart - Released here on beautiful 180g blue vinyl for the 40th anniversary. Those who knew and followed China Crisis were not surprised when it was announced that Walter Becker of Steely Dan would produce the Liverpool experimental pop band's third album. The modernism and melodic touches of Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon often came straight from the Steely Dan playbook, in the best possible way, not imitating or lifting, but subtly taking elements from their influence by using rhythms, repetitions, and melodies, thus creating a subtle sound palette. Flaunt The Imperfection is filled with sunny pop, full of the characteristic oblique lyrics of China Crisis and jaw-dropping hooks, highlighted by the hits "Black Man Ray," "You Did Cut Me" ("scouse soul" featuring Steve Gregory of Careless Whisper on saxophone), and "King In A Catholic Style." The album also includes fan favorites such as "Bigger The Punch I'm Feeling" and the beautifully serene "Blue Sea."
