Desbert Johnson, aka CHEZIDEK, was born on June 20, 1973, in Jamaica. He began singing at school concerts and became a member of the St Ann’s Bay Marching Band. Since 2002, and the release of his first album, Harvest Time, on the Xterminator label, Chezidek has steadily gained prominence. The St. Ann's Bay native has penned several hits, including "Leave The Trees" (2004), "Call Pon Dem" (2007), "Bun Di Ganja" (2008), and the essential "All My Life" (2013), which boasts nearly 40 million views on YouTube. He has collaborated with reggae legends, from veterans Sly & Robbie to more contemporary artists like Capleton, Lutan Fyah, and Mark Wonder. The 2007 release of his 4th album, Inna Di Road, on Greensleeves, opened doors to prestigious stages from Jamaica to the United States and Europe. One of his tracks even appeared in the famous video game GTA. A key artist on the current reggae scene, Chezidek is releasing his 14th album, entitled NEVER STOP, on April 14, 2023, in CD, LP, and digital formats. Produced by Irie Ites Records, this opus will definitively cement the collaboration between the artist and the French label. Chezidek and Irie Ites know each other very well, their first encounter dating back to 2001 during a trip to Jamaica. Since then, several singles produced by Irie Ites have been released, such as the hit "Bun Di Ganja" with over 1.2M views on YouTube and over 7.5M streams on Spotify, as well as tracks like "Who I Am," "Mr Officer," "Friday Night," and many more. Comprising 13 vocal tracks and 5 dub versions, this album is sure to mark the artist's career as one of his best. Musically, the instrumentals are played by reggae greats such as Mafia & Fluxy, Roots Radics, Earl Chinna Smith, Dean Fraser, Bongo Herman, The Ligerians, a combination with the famous Trinidadian singer Queen Omega for a hot and energetic track, as well as the famous "Mr Officer" in combination with King Lorenzo on the emblematic instrumental version by Naram, Russ D, or Irie Ites.
