In the heart of 1990s Morocco, Cheb Nacer brought a fresh wind to the popular scene. Born in Oujda, he grew up between raï, staïfi and châabi before settling in Casablanca, where he fused these influences with the electronic sounds taking over cabarets and clubs. Inspired by the international music videos broadcast on 2M and RTM, he turned European hits into darija choruses, giving birth to a hybrid, danceable sound. Olé...Olé...Olé became a national hit, driven by bright synths and joyful nonchalance, worlds away from the dominant sentimental song. Between 1993 and 2006, he released cassette after cassette, concert after concert, and hit after hit, establishing his unique style: a spontaneous, raw and festive techno-raï, born in studios, living rooms and weddings. Cheb Nacer embodies that era when the boundaries between cabaret and club were fading, when music was copied, circulated and invented without rules. Even today, his tracks still resonate like the soundtrack of a youth connected to global waves, free, curious and proud to dance in its own way.
