Description

Just like the enormous mounds of toxic waste from which Chat Pile takes its name, the music of the Oklahoma City noise rock quartet is a suffocating and grotesque embodiment of the existential angst that has defined the 21st century. While Chat Pile remains true to its cacophonous and murky noise rock style, the overall thematic direction of the band on Cool World not only complements the broader experiments it employs in its writing but also the way it dissects the central theme of the album, namely violence. Within the band's twisted core sound, traces of other eclectic styles blend together, featuring examples of gothic funeral chants, abrasive yet anthemic alt/indie hooks, and off-kilter metal grooves that merely scratch the surface of what can be heard in the ten tracks of the album.
