Moffett had already drawn attention for his virtuosic and soulful contributions to mythic recordings by Wynton Marsalis and Stanley Jordan. He quickly became one of the most important figures of his generation, able to reconcile tradition and innovation, total freedom and unstoppable swing. At once lively and muscular, Moffett's sound is immediately recognizable. On this new album, Moffett appears exclusively with his fretless bass and a supergroup made up of French violinist Scott Tixier, keyboard specialist Brian Jackson (known for his innovations with Gil Scott-Heron), drummer Mark Whitfield Jr, and guitarist Jana Herzen (President and founder of Motéma Music). With its fusion of free-jazz and rock, 'Brigh New Day' follows 'Music from Our Soul' (2017) - featuring Pharaoh Sanders, and the recent Nett Duo: 'Overtones' digital release as a duo with Jana Herzen.
