New album, produced and composed by SebastiAn (Ed Banger Records). With collaborations from Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (who co-wrote and produced the track "Rest") and Paul McCartney (who wrote the song "Songbird in a cage"). "It's the first time I've opened up and the whole object belongs to me." For the first time, Charlotte Gainsbourg lifts the veil: she is the one who wrote her own lyrics, often inspired by her personal notebooks, she is the one who decided to take the plunge and sing in French. If Charlotte Gainsbourg successfully undergoes her transformation here with astonishing frankness, it is because she entrusted her destiny to a man in the shadows: SebastiAn, dynamiter of French Touch 2.0 within the Ed Banger stable and great artificer of the albums of Kavinsky and Frank Ocean. Exiled for a few years in New York, Charlotte Gainsbourg seems to have distanced herself from her past to better face herself. A distancing that has allowed her to constantly establish in "Rest" a bridge between England and France, sung in French and English, but also in the choice of the artists who accompany her: Sir Paul McCartney, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. A wide gap between styles, traditions, and eras that can be found among the contributors who have built the uniqueness of this album: Connan Mockasin, Owen Pallet (arranger for Arcade Fire, Caribou, Franz Ferdinand), Emile Sornin (Forever Pavot), Vincent Taeger (Poni Hoax), Tom Elmhirst (mixer for Frank Ocean, David Bowie, Jamie XX, Adele). In 11 tracks and as many confessions, the singer has just found a place that belongs only to her: it is by exploring her shadows that she has managed to find the light.
