Chapterhouse was a British band that ultimately became an integral part of the burgeoning shoegaze scene, alongside bands like Lush, Ride, and Slowdive. Between 1987 and 1994, they released only two albums, with Whirlpool being their first. Unlike their counterparts, Chapterhouse heavily utilized structures borrowed from electronic music, creating heavy yet strangely uplifting grooves. The record stayed in the UK Albums Chart for three weeks, reaching #23, and includes the single "Pearl" featuring Rachel Goswell from Slowdive.
