The debut full album from the Irish duo Chalk, Crystalpunk [ALTER Music], directly references the education and roots of the band members, award-winning musicians and filmmakers Ross Cullen [singer + producer] and Benedict Goddard [multi-instrumentalist + director]. The beauty, confusion, complexity, and intensity of their youth, lived in the shadow and around the scars of conflict, intertwine in the industrial dance-punk hybrid encoded in the album's DNA, aptly titled Crystalpunk. "This album is us waving a flag for this generation, the one that has inherited confusion, resilience, and a sense of fractured identity." And they wave this flag with the utmost intensity. For the uninitiated, Chalk highlights the interplay between genres, eras, and cultures, transforming this collision into sound. The Belfast band could easily liven up an underground party in a warehouse after dark, incite a pogo in the middle of a festival, or shake an arena any night. Their power has translated perfectly on stage, with the band filling venues and delivering performances that are alternately wild and electrifying to an ever-growing audience of fans. As a group, they have sold out shows in the UK, the European Union, and the United States, performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, SXSW, BBK, Trans Musicals, and many more in 11 countries, and have been selected to tour with IDLES and Fontaines D.C.
