Description

Saxophonist Céline Bonacina has established herself over nearly a decade and with four albums to her credit as one of the most exciting musicians on the European scene. Her voluble, bold playing, infused with groove on the baritone saxophone, is unmatched. Her taste for encounters and musical fusions fuels a constantly evolving trajectory. With this fifth album, we find the fundamentals of her style, a melodic jazz consistently driven by invigorating rhythms. Following a previous phase towards a more acoustic jazz marked by the collaboration with British pianist Gwilym Simcock and double bassist Chris Jennings, Céline Bonacina presents with Fly-Fly a form of synthesis, but with new colors. While we find the lyrical double bass of Chris Jennings, who composed several tracks on the album, we also discover a new collaboration with percussionist, drummer, and singer Jean-Luc di Fraya. This results in a greater emphasis on vocals and a touch of world music. The presence of guitarist Pierre Durand, guesting on a few tracks, adds his colorful and brilliant touch.
