Borrowing from delta blues its raw and stripped-down character, Catfish builds a bridge between the music of Skip James and the indie rock of The Kills. The duo offers unadorned music, with vintage but never outdated accents, focusing on songwriting, the emotion of the voice, and the guitarist's mojo. This strong universe is fully retranscribed by their cleverly offbeat visuals: sideburns, suspenders, doll dresses, and high heels. There are two of them but they play like four: bass, broken-down drums, harmonica, washboard... and especially Damien's scorching guitars and Amandine's powerful voice. The songs address human relationships and the ambivalence of feelings, inhabited by a voice sometimes soft and melancholic, sometimes passionate and feverish.
