Carré-Court’s first album is called Out of the Bloom. It’s a play on words between "out of the blue" and "bloom," with a deliberate nod to Nirvana’s In Bloom. The tone is set. This debut album, recorded in eight days and analog at the Black Box studio in Angers, seems to tell the story of a life, a passion. First, there’s Julie’s voice, a self-taught, even self-proclaimed amateur singer, yet one whose voice is far more captivating than many trained and polished vocalists. Julie enters the songs like a flower with a heady fragrance. With a low, slightly husky voice, and a way of enunciating words like petals falling. Sometimes her voice rises to the high notes, and you can almost hear dishes flying, chipped porcelain – from Limoges, of course, where the duo originates. A soulful, raw voice, around which Emilien crafts tailor-made arrangements. Emilien plays all the instruments on Out of the Bloom – making this the first vocal-guitar-bass-drums duo, and even a bit of organ. He loves sixties pop, reggae, 70s rock, and many other more obscure things. Like Julie, Emilien appreciates the classics. But it's even better to have class. An aesthete of the Stratocaster and reverb, Emilien integrates his influences only to prune them: Carré-Court’s music is distinguished by the elegance and sobriety of its arrangements, always focusing on the essential, much like the garage-rock that shaped Emilien. The twelve songs rarely exceed three minutes, with not a second wasted on boredom. Songs like a holiday romance, short but long-remembered.
