More Energy Fields, Current is a new feat from producer/percussionist Carlos Nino. With major contributions from many of the most exciting instrumentalists in Los Angeles' creative musical constellation, such as Sam Gendel, DNTEL, Nate Mercereau, Jamael Dean, Jamire Williams, of which Nino has also been a central force for over two decades. The album brings together 10 musical gems directed by the Californian, elegantly presented in his unique style of "spiritual, improvised, and spatial collage". On More Energy Fields, Current, Nino plunges us into the aquatic depths of his world, pulling us along like a submarine into a blue abyss. And when we arrive at the final track, "Please, Wake Up" (an extended version of the opening theme with a transcendental counterpoint from saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings), it feels like a return, safe and sound, to the shore.
