Before deciding to stop making music after the release of 'Ice Cream For Crow' in 1982 and to live as a recluse, dedicating himself entirely to painting at the age of 41, Don Van Vliet, better known by the pseudonym "Captain Beefheart", was an influential musician on the Californian underground scene, his native region. An outsider to the record industry, provocative, unpredictable, cult, eccentric, complex, despite a short musical career (two decades) during which he showed immense talent as an avant-garde composer and performer, he is considered one of the most original artists of his time. "The two John Peel sessions from 1968 were recorded off-air, i.e. by a fan with a tape recorder at home. The original BBC tapes no longer exist because the tapes were erased in the 60s to make way for the next recording.
