Le bahianais Caetano Veloso is one of the major musicians of Brazilian popular music (MPB). Some even consider him one of the best songwriters of the 20th century, alongside Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, John Lennon, or Paul McCartney. Caetano began his career by performing bossa nova songs, under the influence of João Gilberto, one of the icons and founders of the bossa nova movement, who also worked towards the emergence of MPB. Throughout his career, Veloso has also become one of the most controversial and strongest personalities of Brazilian national opinion, alongside Gilberto Gil with whom he collaborated.
