Some people have always kept Britny Fox's music at arm's length. Others, however, fully embraced the band from the very beginning of their existence. The antipathy some felt was not due to the music, but rather to their initial appearance; a particularly flamboyant journey into the realm of 17th-century royal costume. It must be said, this was a major departure from the post-glam rock look that was fashionable at the time, but in its own way, it provided their loyal audience with a unique twist on the hair metal style that was booming at the time. Formed in Philadelphia in the mid-80s, the band's roots were linked to an early incarnation of Cinderella, future platinum record sellers. Playing in all the same clubs, Britny recorded an impressive album, solely on cassette, titled "In America" which quickly attracted attention both locally and, surprisingly, internationally. The result of this success sparked interest from labels, leading to a signing with Columbia Records and the release of their debut album, produced by John Jansen. Released in 1988, the record had an immediate impact not only with the public but also with the tastemakers of hard rock. The band's riffs and musical arrogance garnered impressive sales and paved the way for them to open for Poison on a massive North American tour, playing to packed large venues. Tracks such as MTV favorites "Long Way To Love," "Girlschool," and "Fun In Texas" helped propel the album to gold status, making Britny Fox one of the most sought-after bands of the time.
