In the misty town of Todmorden, in the heart of West Yorkshire, where rain and fog shape the landscape, experimental musician Bridget Hayden has brought to life Cold Blows the Rain, an enchanting album of eight tracks, released by the label Basin Rock. Recorded at Oddfellow's Hall during the last sunny days of summer 2022, this album reflects the dark and melancholic beauty of the valley, infused with its haunted spirit. With two decades of musical explorations under her belt, Hayden blends meditative improvisation and traditional folk. Inspired by her mother, who sang classics from The Dubliners, Muddy Waters, and Leadbelly, she reinterprets these timeless songs with deep sensitivity, influenced by artists like Nina Simone and Karen Dalton. Her moving voice, accompanied by layers of analog reverb, intertwines with the harmonium and violin of Apparitions (Sam Mcloughlin and Dan Bridgewood-Hill).
