The label Matrix Music Arhiv (MMA) is reissuing Resistance, the iconic album by Borghesia, a pioneering Slovenian electro-rock band, originally released in 1989. This new remastered edition includes an unreleased live album, Dal Vivo A El Paso, recorded during a concert in Turin in 1988. The raw and experimental versions of the early tracks showcase the band's onstage intensity. Founded in Ljubljana in 1982, Borghesia distinguished itself with an approach that blends music, video, performance, and new technologies. A major figure in the Yugoslav counterculture of the 1980s, the band was also one of the first Eastern artists to distribute their work on VHS and gain international recognition. Resistance is considered their most radical political manifesto, denouncing the mechanisms of power, surveillance, and domination. Its industrial aesthetic and EBM rhythm subvert the sound codes of authority to turn them into an instrument of protest. Released on the eve of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the album now appears as a visionary work. Its reissue resonates with current geopolitical tensions and reminds us that, in the face of violence and oppression, resistance remains a necessary act.
