Booker Stardrum and Evan Shornstein (aka Photay) are two artists with singular voices. One is one of the most original drummers on the experimental jazz scene, blending melodic sensitivity with percussion. The other has carved out a prominent place in electronic music, a master of both synthesizers and drums. Together, they create an explosive universe of beats, electronics, and melody — both fresh and familiar, groovy and emotional. After a largely improvised concert in Los Angeles in the summer of 2025, Spencer Zahn approached them to record an album for his new label, Sudden Quarterly. A week-long session in November 2025 was enough to give birth to *OOPS!* Playful and focused, the album bounces from rhythmic landscape to rhythmic landscape, dotted with details that catch the ear. Shornstein deploys his mastery of electronic instruments, Stardrum brings the acoustic warmth of his drums and percussion. The result: a record that holds attention with its unique sounds and keeps the body moving, from start to finish.
