The Purple Bird

Description

Bonnie "Prince" Billy, alias Will Oldham, releases his new studio album, The Purple Bird. Recorded in Nashville under the direction of producer David "Ferg" Ferguson and accompanied by a group of top-tier musicians, this exceptional album stands out from its predecessors and can be considered a "true Nashville record." The Purple Bird marks the second collaboration of Will Oldham with a producer in his long career. His relationship with Ferg goes back more than twenty years, to the time of the sessions for Johnny Cash's album American III, produced by Rick Rubin. Ferg was then the sound engineer and Cash had covered the song "I See A Darkness" by Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Oldham and Ferg have since worked together on many projects, but the collaboration had never been as intense as on The Purple Bird. Besides Ferg and Tim O'Brien, country singer John Anderson, Ronnie Bowman, Pat McLaughlin, Tommy Prine, and Roger Cook also contributed to the songwriting.
