Will Oldham is back with a joyful and eclectic new album.
"(...) an intense and intimate folk, alternately dark and luminous." - Télérama
Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You, available on August 11, appears to be an album made to be listened to in a room. It’s the sound of people gathered (something we recently feared we had lost), communing, singing, and playing strings, woodwinds, and keys. KSWDY presents itself simply and is joyfully sung at the top of one's lungs, but is it a family portrait or a fairy tale?
Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You was recorded in Louisville by Nick Roeder, with Sara Louise Callaway on violin, Kendall Carter on keyboards, Elisabeth Fuchsia on viola and violin, Dave Howard on mandolin, Drew Miller on saxophone, and with the voice of Dane Waters. The presence in the band of so many local musicians and music teachers has opened up a wide range of genres, smoothly gliding from classical to Japanese acid folk and many other paths. But above all, these musicians contribute to the sense of community and heritage that are the marrow and lifeblood of this music.
