Confrontation is a posthumous album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in 1983, two years after Bob Marley's death. It consists of half songs recorded between the Wailers' return from Zimbabwe (in April 1980) and the start of the Uprising Tour (on May 30, 1980, in Zurich). These tracks were intended for an album that would have formed the final part of the trilogy initiated by Survival and Uprising, but Bob never had the time to finish it. However, he had already chosen the title for this third installment. The tracks were therefore completed with older songs: I Know had been recorded in September 1975, during the Rastaman Vibration sessions. On his deathbed, Bob asked Aston Barrett to make it a single. "Family Man" remixed it and released it shortly after the singer's death; Rastaman Live Up and Blackman Redemption had been recorded in January 1979, but Bob was not satisfied with them. He had re-recorded them in June, replacing the I Threes with the Meditations in the choruses (these sessions were produced by Lee Perry). It is these later versions that he released as singles the same year. Curiously, it is the earlier versions (with the I Threes) that appear on Confrontation; Mix Up Mix Up was recorded in June 1979 but was never released because the track was far from complete; Give Thanks and Praises was recorded in January 1980, during the Uprising sessions. It ultimately was not included in the album. Fueled by the single "Buffalo Soldier," the album enjoyed great success, particularly in France (over 350,000 sales at the time).
