ONE

Description

The first solo album by jazz keyboardist Bob James, "One," was released in April 1974. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart and even made it to the American pop chart at number 85. CTI released three singles from the album: James's version of "Night on Bald Mountain" by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, his cover of "In the Garden" by Johann Pachelbel, and a cover of "Feel Like Making Love" by Eugene McDaniels. The latter was the only track to chart, reaching number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although he found success with his subsequent albums, "One" has maintained lasting appeal. The rise of hip-hop saw producers and artists like Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest sample and incorporate James's composition "Nautilus" into their own tracks. It is now one of the most sampled tracks in the history of American music.
