Fruit of meticulous research, preservation, and restoration work, the 36 CD box set "Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings" is drawn from three major sources: soundboard recordings, mobile recordings from CBS Records, and audience recordings. With the exception of the Manchester concert on May 17, 1966, released under the title "Bob Dylan Live 1966 - The Bootleg Series /vol.4" (Columbia/Legacy) in 1998, two songs featured on the compilation "Biograph" (1985), and a few other tracks, the vast majority of the titles and performances gathered in the "Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings" box set are completely unreleased and available for the very first time. This box set stunningly commemorates the 50th anniversary of these electrifying concerts, which forever changed the sound and direction of rock and pop music around the world. Each CD in the "Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings" box set is housed in a special sleeve adorned with color snapshots taken by D.A. Pennebaker, whose images from Bob Dylan's 1965 and 1966 tours became the cult documentaries "Don't Look Back" (1965) and "Eat The Document" (1966). The artist indeed produced, in the span of 18 months, the albums "Bringing It All Back Home," "Highway 61 Revisited," and "Blonde On Blonde": three masterpieces that sealed his reputation as a songwriter-performer of unmatched genius, power, and originality, while profoundly marking popular music and culture. This famous 1966 tour is also the year of controversy for Bob Dylan, as it is the year he decides to switch from acoustic guitar to electric, and most concerts take place in a very tumultuous manner with a portion of his fans shouting betrayal. In addition, the booklets of "Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings" are authored by Clinton Heylin, consultant for the project and author of "Judas!: From Forest Hills to the Free Trade Hall: A Historical View of Dylan's Big Boo," the ultimate written account of Bob Dylan's historic and pivotal tours in 1965-66.
