Have you heard of BNQT, the new indie supergroup conceived and led by Eric Pulido of Midlake? Pulido came up with the concept for BNQT (pronounced "Banquet") during Midlake's Antiphon tour in 2013: to bring together a number of contrasting but complementary artists with whom he had shared the stage and create an environment in which they could collaborate. This debut album features 10 original songs, with each 'collaborator' writing and singing two tracks. The lineup includes Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses), Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), Fran Healy (Travis), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), and Pulido himself – as well as other Midlake members: McKenzie Smith (drums), Joey McClellan (guitar), and Jesse Chandler (keyboards) who provide backing vocals. 'Volume 1' was mostly recorded and produced in Midlake's studio in Denton, Texas. Both curious and attractive, the resulting work is tasteful and full of surprises!
