THE YOUNG BURGUNDIAN DUO'S NEW EP
BETWEEN 90'S ROCK AND 2010'S GARAGE-PSYCH
No bassist needed. Mathis Vogade and Alexandre Wittmer, united under the name BlueOrchid, form an effective duo that plays current garage rock. Like a hurricane on stage, they champion their hometown of Clamecy and follow in the footsteps of bands like Bass Drum of Death, Wavves, and Mike Krol. Their region, Burgundy, is what inspired the duo to compose their new eponymous EP. They transform boredom into edgy songs, as heard on "Wasted," another that daydreams with their heads in the clouds with the aptly named "Dreaming," or even one that speaks of friendship and the simple pleasures of the countryside with the magnificent track "Here Come The Sun." This EP reveals a deep juvenile feeling and the memory of a group of friends who grew up by the rivers of Morvan, with ups and downs but with pockets full of dreams. The first notes, born in their teenage bedrooms, were refined in the rehearsal studios of La Vapeur (Dijon) then taken to Sens to be arranged by Théo Courtet (Johnny Mafia). Finally, the duo turned to sound engineer Benjamin Mandot (producer for Équipe de Foot, Mars Red Sky...) in Bordeaux to finalize and solidify their new gems. Locked in to record at Cryogène Prod studio for a week, this experience was their first in this discipline. A new 6-track EP of pure 21st-century garage sound is born! The influence of the 90s is omnipresent throughout the listen, with inspirations like Weezer's 1994 Blue Album or Bass Drum of Death's 2011 GB City, as well as Wavves' 2013 Afraid of Heights. This is where the band's style lies: somewhere between California and Burgundy.
