Blue Lake’s new release, Weft, sees its creator Jason Dungan exploring new musical ground with a mini-album that showcases the project’s evolution. Finding inspiration in the art of weaving and embracing a collective spirit as a bandleader, while preparing a new studio album due later in 2025. It follows the acclaimed album Sun Arcs (2023), which Pitchfork named (Best New Music, 8.3), among many other accolades. Blue Lake is the musical project of American musician Jason Dungan, born in Copenhagen, which serves as his artistic platform as a composer and collaborator. Developed throughout 2024 and presented in live performances in many cosmopolitan European cities and festivals, the project stands at a new creative turning point. The earthy title Weft emerges with a sense of ease and familiarity as looping guitar riffs in open chords wrap around a warm cello pulse that provides the essential heartbeat. These interlocking parts align to create his most explicit version yet of an American writing country music in Scandinavia. Dungan named this album Weft in reference to his partner’s weaving practice, Danish visual artist Maria Zahle, whose work Torso appears on the album cover.
