Blood Sucking Maniacs, the Allen family band, led by patriarch Terry Allen and matriarch Jo Harvey Allen, spans five generations and 121 years, and includes (among others) their sons Bukka and Bale Allen; their grandsons Kru, Sled and Calder Allen; Panhandle Mystery Band founding members Charlie Sexton, Lloyd Maines and Richard Bowden, and frequent collaborator Will Sexton. The unbridled, varied songs gathered on their eponymous album are diverse and intricate, blending wrenching ballads and knowing winks, oscillating between the sublime and overt sentimentality.
