MORE MATURE THAN EVER, THE CLAVIN SISTERS RETURN WITH A SECOND CALIFORNIAN PUNK ALBUM WITH POP FLAIR BORROWED FROM FLEETWOOD MAC. BLEACHED, the Los Angeles duo formed by sisters Jennifer and Jessie Clavin, returns with a second LP, Welcome The Worms, which is very different from their first. Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Strokes, Elton John) and featuring Micayla Grace on bass, the album was conceived while both sisters were each escaping personal dramas. Jessie was evicted from her home while Jen was ending a torrid and unhealthy relationship. As the latter struggled emotionally, she threw herself body and soul into music. The 10 tracks were born from a handful of demos, written by the three girls in a remote house in Joshua Tree, far from the destructive city, inspired by bands like The Slits, Black Flag, and Minor Threat. Welcome The Worms is tinged with pop melodies borrowed from Fleetwood Mac or even Heart to Roy Ayers, but remains above all a Californian punk-rock album. In short, a smarter, stronger, and more emotionally profound BLEACHED. It's an ambitious record with refined pop that could make you think of The Shangri-Las on speed, rolling at full throttle in a wind of weed and petals, with a wall of guitars in the back seat. The song "Keep on Keepin' On" is as hypnotic as a kaleidoscope, while "Sleepwalking" and "Trying To Lose Myself Again" evoke the difficulty of living life on autopilot. "Sour Candy" is a pure hit, so natural and catchy that it stays in your head for days. "Chemical Air" and "I'm All Over The Place (Mystic Mama)" play with pop sensibilities, while "Desolate Town" introduces us to Jen, bizarre on the verses, before singing a Cobain-esque chorus, all very inspired by Los Angeles and its "real" clichés.
