Sittin' By The Road

Description

For the first time on vinyl, Sittin' By The Road brings together the earliest recordings by legendary singer-songwriter Blaze Foley. Simple, direct, and powerful, the album contains 12 tracks captured during the so-called "tree house" period in Georgia. Recorded in the mid-1970s on the tape recorder Blaze carried with him as he traveled between Texas and rural Georgia, these songs reveal Foley's early talent. The album includes several tracks that became classics, such as "Cold, Cold World," "Election Day," "Clay Pigeons," and "If I Could Only Fly," as well as three previously unreleased tracks: "The Way You Smile," "Fat Boy," and the title track. At the time of his tragic murder in 1989, Blaze Foley was little known outside of Austin's songwriter circles. Today, he is recognized among the great Texan songwriters, and artists like Townes Van Zandt and Lucinda Williams have paid tribute to him. His songs have been covered by John Prine, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, Billy Strings, and Willie Nelson.
