Having emerged from the electroclash scene, Arnaud Rebotini, Black Strobe's lead singer, changed everything in 2006. Gone was the electro; he surrounded himself with musicians and embarked on a new path. "Burn Your Own Church" leaves no doubt: Black Strobe's influences are to be found in the land of diamond records – not the award, but the concrete saw. An emulator of Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb, Black Strobe no longer bothers with a detached tone or disillusioned vocals. "Burn Your Own Church" is dominated by sonic violence. Apart from "Girl Next Door," the album offers little respite. Without revolutionizing the industrial genre, Black Strobe offers a convincing contemporary vision of it; fans of the genre are already convinced. The blast from "Burn Your Own Church" is likely to knock the uninitiated off their feet.
