PHILIPPE SANMIGUEL has lived in Bamako for sixteen years and is the producer of albums by the famous Malian bluesman SAMBA TOURÉ. Over the years, Philippe has expanded his work with other artists, including the legendary group TARTIT, as well as ANANSY CISSÉ, MARIAM KONÉ, and DJIMÉ SISSOKO. While working on their albums, he had the idea of blending this music with classic rock influences. This is how Black Mango was born, with a first EP released in 2014.The album QUICKSAND, released today, was recorded in Bamako (Mali) over several years, in various recording sessions with a collective of different musicians, each capable of improvising on the pre-established rhythmic and melodic basis. The result is a series of songs that often assert themselves on the first take thanks to a musical touch born of improvisation and combined with the most diverse influences, be it dub or downbeat.QUICKSAND was mixed and mastered by HUGO RACE, whom we have come to know and appreciate through his many productions on GUSSTAFF RECORDS.
