Inzovu Y'Imirindi

Description

In the late 1980s, Bizimungu Diudonne, his wife Agnes Umbibizi, and their band of close relatives self-produced an album blending electric guitars, hypnotic rhythms, and traditional Rwandan chants. Their music, both innovative and deeply rooted in local culture, combined powerful electric jams with softer acoustic pieces, carrying a message of unity in a Rwanda already divided. Tragically, all members of the band were killed during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and their work was forgotten for several decades. Their music, which sang of the beauty of the country and its ancient legends, had nonetheless made its mark on the region. It was not until 2018, thanks to the discovery of the album by a music researcher, that the project to revive this unique work began. Last year, co-producer Jackson Mvunganyi found Noella, Bizimungu and Agnes' daughter, who had kept the original recordings. Today, remastered and pressed on high-quality vinyl, *Inzovu Y’imirindirenaît* is reborn as a vibrant testament to a troubled era, carrying a message of hope, remembrance, and unity.
