After a string of releases that have increasingly veered into electronica, Billow Observatory returns to the haunted hunting grounds of their 2012 debut album with an entirely ambient, percussion-less gem. Embracing chance and randomness, spectral guitars rise, flutter, and crackle into dusty particles, while the concept of time is thrown out the window on each track. An increasingly hostile society undoubtedly contributes to the album’s introspection and quest for otherness. The duo, composed of American Jason Kolb and Dane Jonas Munk, began working together in 2006, leading to the release of a debut album on Felte in 2012. What started as a side project to their respective main endeavors (Auburn Lull and Manual) has slowly become the main activity for both artists, with a total of five albums now to their name.
