Throughout his life, English songwriter, composer, pianist and singer Bill Fay tried, through his songs, to answer the most universal questions: those relating to nature, spirituality, and humanity. He describes his songs as soothing hymns for chaotic times. Originally released in 2010 by David Tibet (Current 93), Still Some Light was issued only as a double CD, made up of album demos from the 1970s and home recordings from 2009. Reimagined with new artwork and available on vinyl for the first time, Still Some Light Pt. 1 brings together Bill Fay’s archival recordings from 1970 and 1971. Most of the songs are intimate sketches that were eventually re-recorded for his self-titled debut album and his landmark album, Time of the Last Persecution. This first volume includes heartbreaking versions of some of his timeless works, such as "I Hear You Calling" and "Pictures of Adolf Again", and features equally powerful songs like "Arnold is a Simple Man" and "Love is the Tune", which appear only in this collection. Bill Fay’s influence can be felt in the work of many artists, so it seemed only right to celebrate him by bringing together a few contemporary voices to perform his most timeless tracks. Thus Kevin Morby and Steve Gunn cover "I Hear You Calling" and "Dust Filled Room" respectively on 7". Bill Fay’s lyrics and melodies are unaffected by the passage of time and changing trends; and alongside the original recordings, these reimagined versions continue to guide us serenely through this other moment of chaos we are going through.
