Some other time

Description

"Some Other Time" by Bill Evans in a 2 CD Deluxe edition, never before released, is coming out on Resonance. These recordings, recently discovered in the archives of the Brunner-Schwer family, were made on June 20, 1968, in the studio, five days after the triumphant performance of the Bill Evans Trio at the Montreux Jazz Festival. This is the only studio album featuring the Bill Evans trio with the legendary drummer Jack DeJohnette and the great bassist Eddie Gomez. This box set includes a 40-page booklet featuring interviews with the trio members and an essay by renowned author and critic Marc Myers, producer Zev Feldman, and the head and engineer of the MPS studio, authority on German jazz, Friedhalm Schulz. Additionally, there are rare and unpublished photos by David Redfern, Giuseppe Pino, Jan Persson, and Hans Harzheim, including two shots taken by the German Hasenfratz during the session on June 20, 1968. Zev Feldman, the world's greatest detective, known to be the Indiana Jones of jazz, discovered this recording by sheer chance. In April 2013 in Bremen, at Jazzahead, he met the son of the late great German jazz producer, Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (familiarly known as HGBS), the founder of the legendary jazz label MPS. By comparing his notes with young Mr. Brunner-Schwer, Feldman discovered that HGBS's family had an unreleased studio album by the Bill Evans Trio featuring Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette in their archives. After listening to a track in his car on the Jazzahead parking lot, Zev Feldman was determined to acquire the recording for Resonance. He is convinced that the world must hear this recording, which adds a decisive element to Bill Evans's journey. The pianist's studio albums are rare, especially for this trio that was only together for six months and never recorded in the studio. The only known recording of the trio was made five days earlier at the Montreux Jazz Festival and released on Verve. This studio session went unnoticed for nearly 50 years, partly due to the way it came about. It was recorded completely spontaneously, with a repertoire entirely different from that of the Montreux concert. But Bill Evans was under contract with the Verve label. The tape was forgotten in the archives of the Black Forest studio, and those who knew about this treasure had all passed away. The album became a forgotten historical relic.
