As a former member of Miles Davis's sextet, Bill Evans made a strong impression with his first trio, which included bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. Their live recording in 1961, "Sunday At The Village Vanguard," set a true standard for the genre and is now considered a classic jazz live album. Tragically, Scott LaFaro lost his life in a car accident just 10 days after this historic session.
