For BIG SPECIAL - Joe Hicklin (vocals) and Callum Moloney (drums) - their sound comes from young, vital, and frustrated working-class voices that are not always heard on the scale they should be. It’s a frustration that expresses itself through a voice that is sometimes coarse and raw, but sensitive, desperate, and moving at other times. Hicklin's searing voice shifts from guttural punk barks and jagged lyrics to soaring soul and vice versa, arriving siphoned from their ancestors, crushed under the weight of history, and rearranged for a new generation.
It’s hard, raw, and angry at a world lacking options, the thinning of common understanding between social classes in England, the exasperation at repeated cycles, and the feeling that you are watching your own life unfold from the outside.
