The new album by Big Bend is a tribute to listening through the veil of time and space. Nathan Phillips, originally from Ohio and the main songwriter, drew inspiration from the jam sessions he organized during a residency in Australia and gathered these recordings with co-producer Shahzad Ismaily to create Last Circle in a Slowdown. Reflective and hi-fi, the sounds blend folk with freeform, evoking the acoustic rock of the 90s and the post-pop writing of Mark Hollis and David Sylvian. The lyrical observations on the mystification of nature and modes of regeneration consider the imminent possibility that all things may evolve in any direction.
