Any album that takes its title from a quote by Keith Richards ("Friction, baby" was his response to an interviewer who asked him about the secret behind the longevity of his partnership with Mick Jagger) has a lot of strengths... and a certain responsibility to live up to the legacy of the Glimmer Twins. Fortunately, this 1996 album from the famous alternative rock band from New Orleans, Better Than Ezra, is not a monkey. Following their success with Deluxe, BTE had for the first time a real recording budget and, with the help of producer Don Gehman (R.E.M., Hootie and the Blowfish), they managed to blend the Southern pop of songwriter Kevin Griffin with the heavy guitar sound of the time to create a wet dream of a college radio record led by the hits "King of New Orleans" and "Desperately Wanting."
