There are voices capable of transporting you to an unforgettable elsewhere, silhouettes that mark the mind and heart from the very first second: Benjamin Clementine does not leave anyone indifferent. Four years ago, this young English artist decided to put himself in danger by leaving London and his familiar surroundings to find in Paris the creative space necessary for his music. It was by taking ownership of a toy piano, received as a birthday gift at the age of six, that Benjamin began his musical journey. Now 25 years old, he is a songwriter, singer with an incredible voice, pianist, and storyteller in the great tradition of Randy Newman or Gil Scott-Heron, with folk and blues accents tinged with soul and jazz. It is the story of a still mysterious life, of a painful past that reveals itself from song to song, of a unique universe that connects us to Nina Simone as much as to Terry Callier or Screamin' Jay Hawkins. After a first piano-and-voice EP released on the independent label Behind, the start of an international tour, and participation in numerous summer festivals, Benjamin returns at the end of August with an EP consisting of four new arranged tracks that pave the way for his first album expected in January 2015. Licensed with Barclay in France and EMI/Virgin in England, Benjamin thus ensures international exposure along with live performances around the world, leaving audiences each time moved by the power and sincerity of his interpretation.
