Benefits return with a hotly anticipated second album, Constant Noise, following the band’s debut album, NAILS (2023), which garnered widespread press and radio support. After a succession of different line ups, Benefits have now settled as a duo of Hall and electronic virtuoso Robbie Major. If the last album was in black and white, this one is in technicolor. This new musical direction is showcased by ‘Land Of The Tyrants’, which saw the band delve into intense bass and dance rhythms, as well as subtle underlying industrial currents. ‘Relentless’ features Peter Doherty of The Libertines and sees the band move further into ambient electronic atmospheres. Doherty is just one of the collaborators on this new album: Zera Tønin, vocalist for queerpop-electro duo Arch Femmesis, Neil Cooper of Therapy? and Middlesborough rapper Shakk all make appearances. The result is an album that borrows as much from Underworld and Leftfield as it does from The Streets or prime Beastie Boys, or even the 90s/early 00s indie sleaze era.
