The universe of Bénabar is a bistro where anyone can recognize themselves. The artist, not wanting to create new "just for the sake of being new," "Les Risques du métier" is an album in the same musical vein as the previous one, but with new instruments (notably a string section). Gifted at describing all the little details that add spice to a situation, Bénabar composes songs as if he were directing a film for which he is the enlightened screenwriter. Sometimes melancholic (Paresseuse, Monsieur René), sometimes touching (La Coquette), the singer also manages to make us laugh sincerely (Dis-lui oui). Inspired poet, the Parisian offers us some sublime quatrains, particularly on the very moving Je suis de celles where Bénabar transcends himself and equals the greatest (Brel, Ferré, Renaud...). With "Les Risques du métier," Bénabar discreetly but surely establishes himself as the pillar (of the bar) of the new French chanson.
