‘No Mercy in This Land’, the title track of the album, is their first release since the album ‘Get Up!’, which reached number 1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums and with which the duo won the Grammy for ‘Best Blues Album’ in 2014. The album is a musical expression of the bond between the two musicians, telling the personal stories of Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, along with the narrative of American struggle and survival. "Charlie Musselwhite is the rare and sacred embodiment where the past, present, and future of Blues collide," Ben Harper explains about his collaborator and friend. "He transforms notes into emotions and makes us feel them as both familiar and new, as if we are hearing them for the first time with each listen. He is a living legend, and his harmonica playing should be sent into space in search of other forms of life." "On stage or in the studio, working with Ben Harper gives me the same emotion I felt when working with the legends of Chicago blues back in the day," Charlie confesses.
