Belle and Sebastian are finally back with A Bit of Previous. For their 10th album, 7 years after its predecessor Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance, the band chose to self-produce and self-record (with contributions from Brian McNeil, Matt Wiggins, Kevin Burleigh, and Shawn Everett). This is the only album they've recorded in Glasgow in 20 years: unconstrained by the strict and costly schedules of traditional studios, the septet wandered extensively through the city's streets and parks, making occasional escapes to surrounding villages, and naturally imbuing the album with a geographical identity. A Bit of Previous sees Belle and Sebastian draw on all the elements that make them such an enduring and important band, and humorously and defiantly evoke the wisdom, experience, and responsibility that come with age. The septet thus continues to assert itself in 2022 as an inexhaustible and infallible source of energy and good humor.
