Imagined in 1981, at the time of the arrival of the first Sony Walkman cassette players (marketed in the UK under the name Sony Stowaway), Music For Stowaways brings together the very first experiments of the British Electric Foundation, the project founded by Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh after their departure from The Human League and before the creation of Heaven 17. Entirely instrumental, the album explores the possibilities of analog synthesizers, drum machines, and sequencers through pieces that oscillate between ambient, electronic funk, film music, and sound experiments. This reissue presents for the first time the complete original program of the 1981 cassette, enriched with tracks released the same year on Music For Listening To and titles associated with this foundational period.
