Description

Who is Béatrice? Who is Melissa? Could they be the same person? At the heart of Secret, the duo's second release, there is only one character, invisible to the eye, not quite human, and yet, one perceives that it is androgynous, timeless, rooted in multiple languages and spaces at once. Throughout the journey, it is neither one nor the other that we hear but the synthesis of two distinct impulses, united in a composite body. And this identity that mutates, blurs, can be found in the explosion of genres; club music, ambient, chanson, hip-hop, trip-hop, UK garage, tech house. The tracks stretch and contract with the sole rule of following the emotional trajectory of a double voice. Behind Secret, there is actually a multitude of perspectives. First, there is Beatrice M., Franco-English, whose solo project is a blend of old-school club music elements with a contemporary approach that they enjoy merging within their label Bait. Their perspective aligns with that of Melissa Weikart, a Franco-American musician/songwriter, trained in classical piano, jazz, and passionate about folk song, whose solo albums are astonishing hybrid and sensitive pieces.
