Inspired by his love for artists such as Bill Evans, Lester Young, Chet Baker and Vince Guaraldi, Dustin Payseur re-imagines some of Beach Fossils’ most popular tracks on The Other Side of Life, alongside a group of jazz-trained musicians including Tommy Gardner (the band's former drummer) on piano, saxophone and double bass, and Henry Kwapis on drums. A rich and smooth blend that explores the contours of familiar songs, elevating their melancholic harmonies to new heights, while Dustin's voice serves as a common thread between the original versions and these incredible interpretations. Formed in Brooklyn in 2009, Beach Fossils helped carry the torch of the lo-fi dream-pop sound that emerged at that time, alongside other artists from the Captured Tracks label such as Wild Nothing, DIIV and Mac DeMarco. Their eponymous debut album, released in 2010, received rave reviews and What a Pleasure (2011) became a cult classic for fans. They then released two more albums, Clash The Truth (2013) and Somersault (2017) with the participation of Rachel Goswell from Slowdive. The latter hinted for the first time at Dustin's deep affection for jazz with instruments such as piano, flute and saxophone. As Dustin points out, a song itself is bare, and there are infinite possibilities for dressing it, each choice creating a radically different result. The result here is a magnificent and intoxicating collection of Beach Fossils' best tracks interpreted through a totally new sonic lens.
