"Ici-bas - The Melodies of Gabriel Fauré" is a project led by the group Baum – Olivier Mellano (artistic direction and guitar), Simon Dalmais (piano), Anne Gouverneur (violin), and Maëva le Berre (cello) – which appropriates and offers a reinterpretation of the sublime melodies of Gabriel Fauré. They have invited singers from the chanson and pop genres, who have little connection to classical music but possess a strong and unique vocal identity: Etienne Daho, Dominique A, Rosemary Standley, Hugh Coltman, Philippe Katerine, as well as Jean-Pierre Nataf, Sandra N Kaké, Jeanne Added, Camille, Piers Faccini, Thomas de Pourquery, Albin de la Simone, John Greaves, Elise Caron, Kyrie Kristmanson, Himiko Paganotti, Judith Chemla, Brendan Perry, and BabX. Gabriel Fauré wrote that he preferred to hear his music sung by amateurs rather than professional voices, implying a release from vocal virtuosity and the associated lyricism. It is within this movement that Baum wishes to position this project. More than just a tribute to someone they consider one of the greatest composers, this project aims to bring this music and these texts back to life with rigor, grace, and poetry, celebrating their timeless nature.
