Formed in 2002, Bastard Priest preceded the entire wave of retro Swedish death metal that has continued in recent years. Authentically Swedish and hailing from Umea, the duo quickly became a pillar of post-Y2K Swedeath with their first demo, "Merciless Insane Death", released in 2008 on the BloodHarvest, Zombie Ritual Tapes label. But it was with the release of Bastard Priest's first album in 2010, "Under the Hammer of Destruction", that they proved who the true contenders for the throne were. Widely acclaimed, "Under the Hammer of Destruction" was followed a year later by "Ghouls of the Endless Night", which was once again praised by fans and critics, and cemented Bastard Priest's name in the international underground.
